Discovery is a process during which a person finds their being and or purpose in life. At this stage it can be difficult. Doubts come about and you being to question everything. Trying to make sense of it all and you may feel alone and or incomplete. You begin to ask yourself:
- Who am I?
- Why am I here?,
- Why do I feel this way?
You fear the process of examining your life. What terrifies you is that in the process of self-discovery, you may come to the conclusion that you are different. By acknowledging who you really are, you are afraid that others may find out the same truths too. Your fear of losing your family love and support, friendships, job etc. You prefer that others never come aware of the signs. You prefer to put on a mask rather than be you true authentic self. When you avoid the process of self-discovery, you are basically in denial of the real you.
When we feel out of balance, like the roles we are expected to grow into pinch and bind, we examine our true nature alongside society’s labels, unraveling from the tangle the places and labels in which we can find equilibrium.
- When have you felt queasy about societal expectations for you?
- How have you picked apart the labels assigned to you and discovered the names you call yourself?
- What are the nuanced understandings of your own identity that have unraveled, like threads from fabric until you can see them clearly?
- How have you discerned your true nature and your true name, hearing them call to you amidst the cacophony of contemporary life?
Unraveling is not about coming apart, but about discerning, through unraveling the complex web of identity and society, who we are truly called to be in this life. It is a time for introspection and self-affirmation.
Unraveling is a growth process, like the unfurling buds of ferns, in which one discerns their true identity, picking it apart from the identity that has been labeled from the outside. As we uncoil who we are truly called to be in this life from outside labels and expectations, we free ourselves from bonds put upon us, to claim the space we are meant to in the world. Unraveling your personal call in the world is an introspective activity, a time of cocooning oneself from outside influences so that your true voice can be heard.
Discording is a process. Let us enter the next stage of metamorphosis.
- Can you hear it? Can you hear the sound of discord? Do you hear the missing notes? Without these new notes our world is in discordance.
- Can you see it? Can you see the rays of discord? Do you see the missing color? Without these new colors our world is in discordance.
- Can you feel it? Can you feel the vibration of discord? Do you feel the missing touch? Without these new movements our world is in discordance.
Discording is a process. Let us bravely explore the sounds, colors, and connections that transform a world of disharmony into a world of harmony. Our lives are the musical notes, the vibrant colors, and the beautiful creation of the tapestry of life. Discording helps us recognize disharmony. Discording helps us seek the new puzzle pieces of creation that will move our world towards harmony.
Who is this new being, this new becoming I see in the mirror?
How can it be that I like what I see there, that I even delight in the light emanating from this new creation?
How wonderfully freeing to know in my bones that I don’t have to be anyone other than who I am, that I am enough, that I am beautiful, that I am unique, and that I am inextricably joined together with everyone else in a tapestry of diversity!
What’s to stop me, then, from offering myself in the collective journey toward wholeness, toward justice and peace for all humanity and all flora and fauna?
What’s to stop me from being a vessel and vehicle of joy for those around me who have been robbed of that joy, who have forgotten how to laugh and play and love?
I shall embrace this new creation manifest in my skin and sinews, in my synapses and spirit. And I shall fly and float like a butterfly, enriching and enhancing everyone and everything.
