It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the cancellation of all in-person 2020 Summer Pride events.
The decision was made after lengthy discussions and consideration of input from our LGBTQ+ community and local leaders. Please know we did not make this decision lightly. Rather we considered public safety, social responsibility and financial sensitivity of our LGBTQ+ community and the greater Fargo-Moorhead area.
There are numerous unknown variables to what August will look like from a community health and economic perspective. We cannot fully predict where the Fargo-Moorhead area will stand with regards to local cases, coupled with the slow opening of commerce, which could either be a non-factor or prolong the communal spread of COVID-19. Promoting events which bring together large crowds of local, regional and tri-state patrons would directly challenge or jeopardize the health of our community.
We are looking at other options to celebrate Pride, that would allow for engagement and support of our community and sponsors while maintaining social distancing. Visibility is more important than ever, in the absence of community and regional events. For this reason, Pride flags will still go up on Broadway the week of August 15th. They will fly to serve as reminder even more this year that your community is here and that you are supported and loved!
Pride is a time to reflect on our history, celebrate our accomplishments and look to the future with renewed vigor and focus. We look forward to the time when we can come together again.
Be kind to one another and support each other. Our community has faced a pandemic before, and just like then, we will make it through this TOGETHER.
STAY strong and we love each and every one of you!
